2016 Conference

The 2016 WANALA Aboriginal Languages Conference is hosted by the Goldfields Aboriginal Language Centre in Kalgoorlie, WA, 16-18 June 2016. The conference theme is Building Resilience: Identity, intellect and the role of languages.

4th WANALA meeting

The 4th WANALA meeting was held on June 1st-2nd at the Desert Peoples Centre in Alice Springs.

This event included special workshops on archiving, apps, and documenting sign languages. The focus was a Forum of discussion towards a national language representation coalition. For further information see the meeting page.

3rd WANALA meeting and PD workshop

The third WANALA meeting will be held on December 2nd-3rd at the Langford Aboriginal Association in Perth.

As in previous meetings, we will include a significant component of PD/skilling, as well as sharing experiences, discussing the activities and strategies of the WANALA alliance, and going on a cultural healthordisease.com excursion. For further information about the meeting go to the meeting page.

WANALA Annual Meeting 2015

The WANALA Annual Meeting for 2015 was held on 28-29 July at Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education, NT.

The meeting was attended by 15 delegates from WA and NT language centres and projects. The meeting included presentations on the the CALL Collection (Centre of Australian Languages and Linguistics Collection) and the Living Archive of Aboriginal Languages (Charles Darwin University) and as well as a professional development sessions on digital archiving principles and practices. The 2013 WANALA Conference was held in Bunbury, WA, from 25th to 27th June, hosted by Dandjoo Moordiyap Dabakarn (now known as Noongar Boodjar Waangkiny Language Centre).
